Borer insects can cause significant damage to wooden structures by boring into the wood and laying eggs. Control methods include the use of insecticides and treatments like Tim-bor®, which is effective against all species of borer and safe for use in homes and businesses. Regular inspections and treatments are necessary to protect timber from infestation and to maintain the structural integrity of buildings. Borer control is particularly important in regions with older wooden structures that are more susceptible to damage.

What Are Borer?
Borer are wood-boring insects. In New Zealand, there are several different types of borer. These insects are also known as woodworm or Bora. Adult females can lay as many as 100 eggs in old flight holes or even in bare timber. The eggs are expected to hatch around 4 weeks after being laid, and then the larvae start boring through the holes. The adults exit the timber by boring their way through to the timber exterior to start their life cycle again.

Protecting Your Timber From Borer
How do we protect your timber from borer?
Any untreated timber or wood should be properly protected from borer. We make use of a product called Tim-bor®, which is highly effective and produces long-lasting results against any species of borer. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, non-flammable, and safe to have in your home.
